8/1/2018 · New Minnesota DWI Law: “Little Alan’s Law ” Takes Effect August 1, 2018. DWI: It’s always been a serious crime, but the consequences haven’t always fallen in line with the effects of the crime. As of August 1, 2018, however, Minnesota residents are going to see an increase in the consequences of driving while intoxicated.
The new law conforms to 2018’s “ Little Alan’s Law ,” which expanded prohibitions on operating off-road vehicles following a DWI conviction. The 2019 revision permits withdrawal of snowmobile, ATV and motorboat privileges at the same time as the revocation of a driver’s license for test failure pursuant to Minnesota ’s Implied Consent law .
The new law has been coined “ Little Alan’s Law ” in honor of Alan . The goal of lawmakers is to close a loophole in DWI law that allowed those convicted of motor vehicle DWI offenses to legally continue to operate off-road vehicles, including snowmobiles and ATVs.
